'08 Trek Madone 6.9 PRO

Lighter, faster, better. That was Trek's goal in creating their best-of-the-best Madone 6.9. Brutally efficient and ultra light, it features ingenious new technology for a superior ride, such as a 90mm-wide bottom bracket for maximum efficiency, sealed headset and bottom bracket bearings that simply press into the frame saving weight and reducing maintenance, and a seat mast that saves even more weight, while also boosting compliance for supreme comfort. And, it's built of Trek's team-spec OCLV Red carbon, while the fork is equally impressive. It's Bontrager's Race XXX Lite Carbon with E2 steerer, which is oversize at the base for excellent efficiency and control. A frame of this level deserves only the best and you get it with top-of-the-line Bontrager Race XXX Lite carbon wheels and Shimano's Tour-winning Dura-Ace components for the ultimate in shifting and braking, while the Bontrager stem, bars and seat add the finishing touches of class.

I never felt more confident on a bike. Cornering is magical. I cannot believe how far I can lean this bike over in the turns. This bike just makes me better. Worth every penny. Special thanks to Nelson for setting it up and taking the time to get everything perfect for me.

        Comments:

After owning several TREK road bikes, including a Columbus-tube steel and my more recent ('97) OCLV 5200, my new 6.9 Pro Project One is awesome. It is super light, tipping the scales at a mere 15.0 pounds with Race X Lite wheels. It also absorbs road shock extremely well and is very stiff laterally. In addition, I thought that the built-in vertical compliance at the seat mast was all hype. After the first ride, however, I could actually feel it. At first this seems strange, but this actually works exactly as TREK intended! Nice job, and thanks for a great Made-in-the-U.S.A. product!

          Comments:

I like this bicycle very much. It has great torsional and lateral stiffness, in addition to tried and true Madone geometry, an 8 time tour winner. It includes for the first time, a seat mast, enhancing the stiffness and cohesion of the bike, without the dangerous hack-saw work required by other brands. The major issues that I encountered with the Madone 6.9 pro centered around long haul comfort and component choices. Many races are contested on less than pristine tracks and the Madone did not work well on rough surfaces, potholes, ruts, or the occasional dirt encountered in competition. After a long period of time in the agressive racing position, on a very stiff bicycle, my body started to wear out and become tired, in comparission to my less stiff Klien. Also, the deep section wheels are poorly suited to average riding, and even much racing. The high profile is a wind magnet, reducing the riders control in even a slight crossbreeze. On a luxurious, purebreed racing steed such as the Madone, one should be able to expect thoughtfully chosen components, not just a show off of the manufacturer's most expensive, carbon fiber jewels. Had I money to spare after purchasing this bicycle, I would have replaced the wheels, but i think, such a nice cycle should have components chosen in a manner befitting its pedigree

          Comments:

As per all Treks recent products, excellent as one now expects.Great back up,dealer network and company involvment. However, some riders who race like solidity on their bike.Sure its efficient and strong, but the frame part of the seat mast is terribly bendy. It makes for a smooth ride but gives a disturbing feeling that one cannot dial out.Carbon seat, 140psi in tubulars just makes it worse. Its not a seat of the pants ride, its a comfort ride.I see why you built it this way as i'm guessing most people want comfort. It spoils what is otherwise a fine example of bicycle engineering for me.Come back feedback, all is forgiven.

after 4 month waiting, I recently received my 6.9pro frame, put campi record on, campi neutron wheels and some Ritchey stuff, compared to my old Trek 5500 it is much better. It is the best bike I have ever ride, and what about the beauty, well, for me it is one of the nicest bike on the planet. Now it is time for the next sunset ride, for sure, I will enjoy it...

          Comments:

The fat bottom bracket, integrated seat-post, and overall stiffness of the frame make all the power exerted by each pedal stroke propel the bike forward...I particularly notice this when climbing. The wheels are magnificent in holding the inertia on flats...they have increase the amount of time I can pull. I love this bike.
