    Comments:

I have been riding a year on the hills of Ky. Started with a hybrid Trek, after two months bought the Gary Fisher Trek road bike and liked it but then last month moved up to this bike and I could not believe the difference. Speed picked up with same effort and the hills are a piece of cake. At 60 yrs old and no more running this is my new passion. There is nothing so far that I do not like. Absorbs rough stuff well and is so stable on the downhill.

      Comments:

I've put about 500 miles on my 5.2 compact. Upgraded from a Trek 1000 SL. I was first impressed by the way it climbs - wow! On some hills, you can just get up on the pedals instead of downshifting, and the hill is behind before you know it. The second thing that impressed me was the smooth ride. The carbon frame absorbs shocks that will jar you on an aluminum frame. Almost like having a suspension. The shifts are much smoother with the Ultegra than my old Tiagra. The bike is incredibly stable at speed. I've had mine up to 50 mph and felt completely confident - the powerful brakes help out here! The only things I plan to change are the tires and the casette. The tires are great for racing, but I've got more flats than I'd like, so I'm going for something with kevlar. The gearing is ALMOST perfect - but on very steep climbs I'd like a granny gear (I do mountain climbs in Colorado). I'm going to replace the 12-25 casette with an 11-28. The seat isn't all that bad - I've ridden it for ~20 miles and found I really need more padding for my old rear. Seats are cheap anyway - and you're not buying this bike for the seat. All in all you'll LOVE this bike - I do!

          Comments:

I bought this bike as a replacement for my crashed Scott Addict and expected to use it as a second bike to my BMC pro machine. Suprisingly, I find it the best bike I have tried. It just fits great and is comfortable for long rides, is very responsive and fast. Although it cost several thousand dollars less than the other bikes I mentioned, I like it better. I did replace the saddle and the wheels although I do not know that the bontrager wheels or seat are not adequate. I had a selle italia SLR carbonio and Mavic Kysrium SSL wheels so I used them.

Bottom bracket stiffness is great. Absorbs loads of vibrations. I only swapped the seat to an Inform RL and the bars to a Anatomic reach instead of the variable radius that came on the bike.

Problems with rear wheel spokes getting loos, also lack of tenssion adjustment for the front derailer, I had before Giant TCR 1 with Ultegra 9 speed, seems to me that Shimano is using some short cuts, not the same Ultegra any more...but the carbon frame is nice to ride on,well also 8 years ago i was few years younger

The Trek Madone 5.2 is just plain awesome. The performance of it left me speechless. This replaced a 11 year old Cannondale and it was like going from a Chevy Vega to a Cadillac XLR.I rode a Century the day after I received this bike and the carbon frame and forks respond very well to all road conditions. Trek built an awesome bike.[...]

As a rabid cyclist, this bike does it all for me. It is also the best looking bike I've seen in awhile. It's cool when people notice that the bike you are riding is worthy of all of the effort that you put in on the road.
